Practice what you Preach

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

I love those moments when you’re super upset and you say something that blatantly applies to you just as much as the other person you’re talking to.  During a band meeting, I sat and listened to the rest of the band members starting to get into an argument.  I finally got flustered and yelled over everyone that they just needed to calm down.  Clearly, I needed to calm down as well.  I know this moment isn’t uncommon to any of you, the moment when you say something and then feel completely ridiculous but you still attempt to keep your pride intact by acting like what you just said didn’t apply to you.  God wants us to preach His word but at the same time He wants us to put into action what we preach.  We’ve all heard the phrase, “Practice what you preach.”  This couldn’t be truer.  God asks us to shine His light and be an example of who He is to those around us.  If our words contradict our actions then we’re making it nowhere except making ourselves look like idiots.  Don’t say it unless you can prove it with your own life first.

James 1:22-24 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”
