Awkwaaaaard!

Philippians 2:5-7 “Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process.”
As a college secretary I deal with some pretty strange stories from students.  A lot of times these stories get to be very awkward and unnecessary.  At that point, the other secretaries and I have a pact to help each other get out of the awkward conversation.  Recently, we had a young lady start discussing her family’s inappropriate habits and we will leave it with that description.  The poor lady stuck in this conversation was our new work-study who was in no way used to dealing with awkward student topics.  Her face turned a bright shade of purple within seconds.  She quickly made her way into the safe portion of the office to get away from the student.  I feel for some of the students because a lot of them just need someone to spill their guts to.  Nonetheless, when you get into these uncomfortable situations, all you want to do is get away because it makes you feel awkward and unsure.  You’re unsure of what to do and what to say and frankly, most of us really don’t want to try and overcome that so we just find any excuse to get out of the position.  God calls us to step out of ourselves to reach others.  He doesn’t ask us to just minister to those we’re comfortable with.  No, He wants us to humble ourselves and go where nobody else wants to.  He wants us to sacrifice what no one else is willing to sacrifice.  He wants us to stand out and be different compared to what society begs us to be.  If God calls you to work in a sewer to be able to minister, it sure isn’t a comfortable job but think of the lives you could be a part of changing by doing what God calls you to do.  Think about how your own life could change.
Philippians 2:14-15 “Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God.”
