Death for Life

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

I know I’ve said this a few times but, I really love fall.  I adore watching the leaves turn beautiful colors and then fall to make the ground a blanket of beauty.  Have you ever noticed that they don’t stay that color long once they fall?  They quickly turn an ugly brown and die where they fell below the tree.  What we don’t realize is the death of those leaves is life for the tree.  The leaves decompose filling the soil with nutrients.  The tree then uses its roots to extract these nutrients from the soil so it can continue to live.  In the same sense, Christ came as a beautiful thing but died so we can continue to live.  For nature, it’s a natural process for things to die so that other things can live.  With humans, we don’t have to die so that another person can live-just doesn’t work that way.  Jesus stepped out of the norm and did what isn’t done.  He threw out the natural order of things and provided a new order, one in which we were offered life despite our sins that deserved death.

John 15:3 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
