Letting Go

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

I grew up on a farm.  We didn’t have cows but we always had the neighbor’s cows in our yard.  They were in our yard so often that we named them…all 50 of them.  The neighbor didn’t mind because he just had numbers on each of their ears and that was that.  Other than the cows that visited, we had a ton of animals of our own, horses, ducks, chickens, a morning dove, a rabbit, a bearded dragon, cats, dogs, and pop belly pigs.  Of course, we had had a few random critters along the way that we kept only long enough until they were fixed up and we could set them free.  A few of these animals include but are not limited to a raccoon, skunks, wild rabbits, mice, a crow, a flying squirrel, opossums, and even one of those big white turkeys from one of those semi trucks that take the turkeys to their deaths.  Yes, from the time I was born until the house burnt down a year ago, my life has been filled with critter adventures.  Moving to live with my older sister and her husband was a shock because it was in the city and they only had two dogs.  Praise God for those two dogs, they gave me many smiles.  Today, the last of the two dogs went to a different home.  The home was perfect for the dog and she needed that one on one attention because of her age and frailty.  My heart still broke.  When you are asked to give up something that’s important to you, it’s really hard.  But, today there was no doubt that it was God opening up the opportunity for our dog to live the rest of her life in a wonderful home.  God will ask things of you that will break your heart but this only means that he is preparing you for something even better.  It’s like getting that one puzzle piece that you swear doesn’t fit into the puzzle anywhere and it frustrates you sometimes to the point that you just walk away from it.  Once it becomes clear where that piece fits in, the bigger picture starts to make more sense.  Let go so that God can direct you to the next location of your puzzle piece.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
