Focus

Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Do you ever get into those little discussions about things that aren’t specified in the bible and they end up becoming arguments?  A big one that used to cause a ruckus in a young teen’s group I used to attend was if you went to hell when you committed suicide or not.  Everyone had their own opinion and a scripture to try and back it up.  When it came down to it, there wasn’t anything found in the bible that specifically clears the issue up.  Tonight we took our youth to a community gathering in a nearby town.  Ten different churches came together to forget differences in denomination and worship as one.  The gathering was simply called, One.  How many times do we find ourselves getting stuck on our own opinions of things that we miss what really being a Christian is all about?  It’s all about Jesus.  Who cares if your preacher wears a robe when he gives the word on Sunday morning.  There have been churches around my area that have split over the color of the new carpet being put in the sanctuary.  Can you say unfocused?  It’s not about the building, the colors, or our clothes, it’s about JESUS!  When decorations become more important than simply spreading the word to people, then why even have the building we call a church?  Its purpose is null.  If you want to argue about tedious issues and opinions, join a book club.

Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
