I Have a Problem?

1 John 1:8-9 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I always like to joke about my OCD.  I tell everyone I admit that I have it, which is the first step to recovery.  You hear the steps used in AA meetings all the time.  We usually don’t think anything of it if we don’t have problems with drinking or other apparent addictions such as drugs.  Why?  Because we don’t see ourselves having a “real” problem if it isn’t something as obvious as being an alcoholic.  The first step to being able to get rid of anything in our lives is admitting that we have a problem with it.  Stretching the truth every once in a while, eating too much, being overly obsessive, using harsh joking or words, all of these and much more are problems.  They’re something that has made a stain on the white, shining robe God has clothed us with.  After a while the stain might not stick out to us as much because we’re used to it.  Others can see it a mile away, just like we can see their stains so well.  Don’t lie to yourself.  It would be like looking in the mirror and having a big green streak in the front of your hair, bright and noticeable as could be.  You walk into work and someone asks you about it and you deny that it’s there.  Ugh, it’s pretty obvious that it is so you only make yourself look foolish.

Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus told his disciples, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
